Leading-Edge Retinal Diseases Specialist in Alabama and Georgia

Ram Peddada, MD - Dothan & Auburn, ALDr. Peddada is an experienced board certified ophthalmologist and fellowship trained retina specialist. In addition, he also has a doctorate in engineering and biomechanics which gives Dr. Peddada an added dimension of understanding the treatment of retinal diseases. These include surgical conditions such as retinal detachment and macular hole, and medical retinal conditions such as leakage and bleeding due to age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

After receiving his doctorate in engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, Dr. Peddada served on the faculty at University of Maryland. There, he published research and obtained a patent on improving flexibility and flow of red blood cells. This work inspired Dr. Peddada to go to medical school. While he attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine he was awarded an NIH Summer Fellowship, the Best Overall Clinical Research award at the ESRF international meeting and the award for outstanding graduating senior in ophthalmology. He completed his ophthalmology residency at University of South Carolina where he received the award for best clinical research.

Dr. Peddada completed his medical and surgical retina fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago where he received a research grant to study age-related macular degeneration and was invited to present his research in Sydney, Australia.

Dr. Peddada was also recognized in 2011 by American Academy of Ophthalmology for volunteer services as a counselor for the State of Wyoming. After years of successful solo practice he founded in Wyoming and moving to the warmer southern Alabama as a partner at Eye Center South in Dothan, Dr. Peddada is now happy to establish a new retina practice in the Auburn, Dothan and Metropolitan Columbus area. Dr. Peddada is the first and only retina specialist based in Auburn.

Clinic Update

Retina Updates

  • Macular Hole Repair Prognosis: We reviewed our surgical outcome data to predict the degree of visual acuity improvement based on the pre-operative visual acuity.
  • Wet Age-related Macular Degeneration: We are developing a new technique based on angiogram studies to assess why some eyes seem to respond more readily to treatment than others. Work is ongoing to provide clinical value to these methods.
